An Experienced Health Law Advocate
Clare McGorrian has practiced law for 18 years. She is admitted to practice in all Massachusetts state and federal courts and the United States Supreme Court. Attorney McGorrian is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law and Harvard College.

For most of her career, Attorney McGorrian has focused her practice on consumer-oriented health law. As senior attorney for public interest law firm Health Law Advocates, Ms. McGorrian:

In private practice, Attorney McGorrian has handled many individual cases. Highlights include:

  • Persuading large companies to comply with post-divorce health insurance laws
  • Reducing, through negotiation, substantial medical debts already in collection
  • Winning insurance coverage for rehabilitation hospital stays for disabled clients
  • Obtaining insurance payment on appeal for residential substance abuse treatment
  • Co-authoring federal court briefs for successful Social Security Disability appeals

During this time, Attorney McGorrian also worked for non-profit clients, including:

  • serving as General Counsel for a litigation project pilot at Community Catalyst
  • advising New Hampshire advocates on passing a post-divorce health insurance bill
  • offering guidance to a health-care labor organization on Massachusetts health reform

Clare McGorrian has spoken and authored publications on such varied topics as: 

  • Health insurance coverage after divorce
  • Mental health benefits and "parity"
  • Federal health benefit laws, such as ERISA, COBRA and HIPAA
  • Privacy of health information 

  • Access to care for Medicaid beneficiaries

Attorney McGorrian speaks regularly to lawyers and others on health law topics. She is an adjunct faculty member at Suffolk University Law School, where she teaches Health Law Advocacy.
